I was having my midnight blogging reading when i stumble upon Liewcf’s post about Fring. I am a frequent user of mobile chat program, using my phone to chat in MSN through GPRS connection when I’m outdoor and not in front of PC. I have tried Agile Messenger, mig33, IM+, etc.
As AhTim cannot test the program with his Sony Ericson T290, I volunteer myself to do a testing review on Fring. Ha ha…
I checked through the compatible mobile list and found out that my phone, Nokia 6630 can run Fring. Thus, I quickly went to the main page of Fring. Unlike Agile Messenger which required you to purchase the license, Fring is totally free of charge.
Straight away I click on the download button and fill in the required information.
Handset Type > Nokia
Model > 6630
Country > Malaysia
Mobile Number > +60128xxxxxx
Email > xx@xx.com
…and click Join button.
I was notified that SMS has been sent to my number. At this page, if you did not receive any SMS, you can click to send SMS again. Or you can also opt to download via PC.
I received the SMS from Fring with a download link.
I would recommend you to download the program through PC and then install it to the phone. The filesize of the SIS file is 184kb. Therefore it would be more economical and faster to download it through Streamyx broadband line, instead of using slower GPRS connection.
Next I browse to the Instruction page….
…and also the Interaction Guide page to read the instructions before I proceed to install the program into my phone.
I will end this post here. Please stay tune for next update.
Part 2: Installation and Using Fring.
