My family has gone to Sibu for a visit so I’m all home alone on this lazy Sunday. After playing WOW (World of Warcraft) for a couple of hours and I finally gave in to my growling stomach. With no one around so that means I have to take care of my lunch by myself.
As I promised some of my friends to do a review on Jakar’s Big Prawn Mee, so that’s gonna be on my menu today. AhSeng has recommended that I should try out Peking Restaurant. So I jumped into the car and drive for 15 minutes to nearby town, Jakar. Right after I passed the bridge, I paid attention to the right side and spotted the coffee shop easily. In case you missed it, just go round and round the town until you found it.
Peking Restaurant has been famous for it’s Big Prawn Mee. This is also an ideal place for having lunch and dinner. I was there around 3.30pm and there are still many customers patronize this coffee shop for lunch. They do serve some exotic meats as well.
My Big Prawn Mee was ready in 15 minutes. The mee is cook with Foochow Chau Chu style, whereby the mee will first be fried and then serve with cooked salty brownish soup. Some chili are added but you can remove them if you don’t like the spicy chili. The soup itself is salty with very little hint of chili. (Tips to Sixthseal: Don’t wear any white or light colored cloth while eating this unless you want some abstract splash of brownish substance on your shirt.)
The big prawn was cut into 4 portion. Here you can see that you will get one full size of big prawn. Do not ignore the thorny prawn leg sticks as there are also some prawn meat inside.
I’m lucky to get a prawn with eggs (those yellowish/red stuff). Extra flavor!
I spent 30 minutes slowly enjoying this delicious bowl of Big Prawn Mee while I read my ebook from my phone. The empty prawn shell filled up half of the bowl. This bowl of Big Prawn Mee is cost me RM16.
My verdict: Highly recommended for any prawn or Chau Chu mee lovers!

Wah .. how come the price is RM16?? I went there in Mar ‘08 still RM12. Inflation effect so strong in Sarikei/Jakar?
How many prawn you got? 1 and it cut into 4 pcs?
I think I can’t afford that if I come back again. I remember I cooked my own prawn the next day after I enjoyed the similar dish. I paid RM22 for 16 big prawns (tips : go to market when they are closing … cheap sales!!). LOL.
